Whilst road tripping through the centre of Australia, we stopped for camp at the Devils Marbles. Since I decided I wanted to travel to Australia, I’ve always wanted to see the Marbles but I was never sure on the logistics of how to do it. I looked into doing a tour or getting a coach there but to be honest, what better way than to just drive there yourself.
I miss my trusty Toyota.
I never realised until getting there how massive the boulders really are. The ones in the image above were actually very small in comparison to the others. A lot of them look like they could topple over at any moment but firmly in place, these granite boulders seem to defy gravity and amaze visitors.
With a camping ground on site and toilet facilities, its great to get there towards the end of the day so you can set up camp and enjoy the sunset… and sun rise if you’re that keen. I however am not.
As you can see from the campsite, this is a very popular destination and one I cant recommend enough for those road tripping Australia. One of my favourite things and something I really miss from my travels in Australia, are the outback sunsets. Always beautiful and with no light pollution, the clear lines of colour change make ours in the UK look a bit boring.
Of course you’re not meant to climb the boulders and of course there are signs warning not to, but the view from the top was too good to miss. As a disclaimer don’t climb them… especially not in flip flops…
It is such a great spot. Glad to hear you guys enjoyed it. We didn’t stop the night there – looks like we missed out on a hell of a great sunset spot. Thanks for sharing!

The Devil’s Marbles remind me a bit of Jumbo Rocks at Joshua Tree National Park in California. My daughter and her friends loved to climb them when we camped there when she was a little girl.

Wow, this is incredible. This is my first time reading about the Devils Marbles, and it seems to be similar to Stonehenge. Thanks for sharing!

The Devils Marbles is one of a kind place to visit in Australia. No wonder geek travelers fallen in love with this place even from afar.

Hi Gary, good to hear from you 🙂
Apologies I have been quiet on my blog, I am working at the moment to save for the next adventure (I need to win the lottery so I can go where I please!) I work on a farm so as you can imagine it’s always busy here.
Your message has given me some motivation so I’ll get writing and post something soon 🙂
