For me, strawberry picking marks the end of Summer and the welcome of Autumn. When my sister and I were little, my mum would take us picking every year and we loved it. It’s a really nice day out and something every one can enjoy… well unless you don’t like strawberries of course.
As we had a few hours off work for lunch, we met some of Mitch’s family at Over farm. Situated just off of the Over roundabout, it’s easy to find and dog friendly – yay! I have driven past the farm so many times on my way to and from Bristol, but have never gone in. This will now be a regular stop for us in the future.
Over farm is a family run, working farm producing organic fruits and vegetables. They also run events throughout the year and have a butchers on site. Vegan friendly, the cafe and shop caters for all with its local produce, so it’s hard to stop yourself buying!
There are also farm animals you can feed, which is great for kids. We unfortunately ran out of time so didn’t get to stop at the cafe or to see the animals. However we did have time to grab a tub of organic cappuccino ice cream, some fruit and veg, chocolate and a big bag of pork scratchings for Jed (the dog). He was pretty pleased with his day out and so were we.

Raised strawberry plants! I wish we had those when I used them go to U Picks. It seems there are no longer any places to pick at where I live (season ends early July).

Dear Emily,
Have you ever considered being a local tourism blogger as a way to also pay for your travels? Consider promoting local places, business, and food stops to bring in tourism. Lots of people hit larger towns, bit to frequent smaller ones can boast local economy. You show the appeal to my family to visit England and its countryside.

I do not think I have ever seen them grown commercially in gutters! they look delicious, mine were a poor show this year maybe I should invest in some new plant and some guttering!

Picking strawberries in the fall is still one of those things I want to do some day, with my kids, who are now adults…One day I will remember to do it before others have taken them all..

Emily, I enjoyed reading your post about Over farm.60 years ago I used to ride my bike from Henbury to Cromhall near Wooten-Under-Edge to work. I challenged myself each day to get enough speed up to pedal down Black Horse hill and make it uphill through the village of Over without getting off my bike. Those were the days. Enjoyed your post about Weston-Super-Mare too. I spent my toddler days near there at Burnham on Sea at Jan Smuts home for children. I live in the USA nowadays. Nice memories you brought me. Thank you.
