Weston beach race

For the 36th year, Weston Super Mare underwent a massive transformation from the usual sancastles, donkey rides and ice creams to a huge endurance track. Over 1000 entries and only one winner, this was an intense race and a tiring one for those competing.

At 1:30pm the engines start and so does the excitement of the crowd. With so many bikes reving at once, the sound is so powerful it makes your stomach tingle. As you try and worm your way to the front for a better position, the more competitive riders do the same towards the start line. For the next three hours, you can barely hear a thing but strangely, you get used to it pretty quick.

This endurance race is for all levels of riders so amongst the serious competitors, you will also find the odd few just having a go, the once arounders and those who are on a Honda C90. These bikes are well known for being indestructible so it was entertaining watching such a small bike power it’s way to the top of the mounts, then to zoom down and back up again. I’ve always wanted a C90 and after seeing the sheer determination of them, I’m even more set on getting one now!

In the week building up to the event, you will see JCBs hard at work on the sea front. All obstacles are formed out of the sand which as you can see below, don’t last too long!

According to Mitch, next year I’ll be competing. I have my doubts but who knows, anything could happen in a year!

  1. Looks absolutely fantastic, what a great event to go to. Didn’t know they did things like that at Weston. Brilliant photos too.

  2. Hi Emily,
Fun, fun stuff. The stillness of the coast is disturbed for just a little bit, but lots of fun to watch, right? Are there a lot of beaches in there that you can car camp? Are they hard to get reservations for? Many adventures to you!

    1. Hi Gary,

Unfortunately these beaches aren’t for camping as they have sinking mud! Not many beaches you can camp on over here but there are a lot of camp sites near by 🙂

It’s a great day out. My partner wants me to compete next time, I’m not so sure ha ha!
