Paddle boarding the river Avon

So a few changes have happened since I last wrote. Firstly… I’ve got a job! Well two jobs actually. I work in a warehouse and as a dog grooming assistant which are both part time. I didn’t want anything too full on, so this is perfect for me as I still get some free time to myself and I’ll finally get to enjoy summer!

Another change is… I passed my module 1 for my motorbike test, with no faults!

Woo hoo!!
The big bike I am training on

I have my module 2 booked and I’m already nervous. Once I pass, I’ll be able to ride any size engine motorcycle which is very exciting. Hopefully it won’t be too long and I’ll be riding whatever bike I want, wherever I want!

We’ve just had a very hot and sunny Bank Holiday weekend here in England, and I was lucky enough to be taken out paddleboarding, by my good friend Emily. I know, two Emilys – it does get a bit confusing.

We got in the river Avon (with a little uncertainty and wobbling), in Swinford and paddled all the way up to the Riverside Inn where the previous week, my friend April got married and I had the privilege of being maid of honour. Because of the covid restrictions and lockdowns this was the third time their wedding had been rebooked. It was a beautiful ceremony and everything went smoothly. Maybe third time is the lucky one!

It was great to get out and enjoy the sun. The river was so still and peaceful it was a beautiful day. Now I’m searching for a paddleboard to buy for myself so I can do it more often. We didn’t fall in once but we did get in a couple of times because it was so hot!

The summer in England is so different to summer any where else. I think it’s because we don’t get much good weather, that when we do, we really make the most out of it. There were so many people out having bbqs, drinks, swimming and just having a good time. There is a really positive and happy atmosphere in British summer and its a fantastic thing to be a part of.

  1. What a lovely outing. I haven’t tried paddle boarding yet. Congratulations on the new jobs. I’m glad you found jobs that still allow you to have free time. It’s great you passed your bike test. Enjoy your bike training, jobs and summer.

  2. Sounds like you’ve been seriously busy. Two new jobs, passing bike test, out paddle boarding, and a friends wedding. Phew. The Avon looks fabulous and you’re so right about English summers, they are so good aren’t they?

  3. I’d like to try paddleboarding someday, hopefully on a body of water as calm as your river. From watching others, keeping your balance seems to be the toughest aspect. On that note, your first photo is impressive. Waterproof case for the phone/camera?

    1. It wasn’t too hard to balance, once you’ve got it, you get used to it very quickly. It’s a waterproof case for my Huawei p30 Pro, it’s got a great camera 😊

  4. Hi Emily,

Enjoy your window of great weather. So what is summer generally like? Humid? Mild? We are in Southern California so we are dry hot 100 and over easy.

    Thanks,

    Gary

    1. It’s 22 degrees today and according to Google that’s 71.6 fahrenheit. It gets a fair bit hotter some days but even at 60 we are in shorts over here 😂 Today is pretty humid because we’re due quite a lot of rain but otherwise its generally a dry heat 😊 hope you’re well x
