The Goodwood Festival of Speed

Umbrellas and a negative covid test at the ready, we joined over 200,000 people at the Goodwood estate, for the Festival of Speed. Amongst those festival goers was none other than Tom Cruise. Of course his day was probably way more luxurious and involved a lot less mud than ours, but I’m still claiming to of lived like a celeb for the day.

Goodwood House is a beautiful building dating all the way back to the 1600s. Oringally it was planned to be in the shape of an octagon, however only three sides were ever built. I would love to have a look around inside but being one of the commoners, we weren’t allowed in. I bet Tom got was allowed in though!

After a two and a half hour drive from Bristol, Mitch and I started out our day the same way as we always do… Searching for the nearest place to get a nice coffee and pastry. They had some amazing food stalls here and such a variety we didn’t know where to begin! …of course we enjoyed the cars and bikes too.

It rained pretty much all day. Not heavy but also not light enough to put the umbrella away. This didn’t dampen our moods though, we had a great time (pun intended).

We bought five raffle tickets to win this bike so fingers crossed everyone! This was to support the British Motorcycle Museum which we’re planning a visit to soon. Hopefully we’ll take the trip up there on our winning motorcycle!

The Festival of speed has been running since 1993, which is the year after I was born. It was founded by Lord March and is most famous for its hill climb event. The hill climb stetches 1.86km and the top record is currently held by Romain Dumas, who completed it in 39.90 seconds in a Volkswagon I.D R in 2019.

The best curry I’ve ever had. Indonesian slow cooked coconut chicken.

After a bit of lunch, we headed into the future. Here we saw what life could potentially look like and to be honest, it was a little scary! Perhaps I’ve watched too many films where robots turn against us, because I found the robot dog quite unsettling, especially when it was running. We also tried a multivitamin which was created with a 3D printer right infront of us. I’ve probably consumed a tracker, recording device and a chip which attaches to my brain and slowly takes over, but I had my vitimins for the day and was entertained for a few minutes, so it was clearly worth it right?

A little life update, I passed my Module 2 which means I am now fully licensed! It’s an unrestricted however I don’t think I’ll be hopping on the Harley any time soon. At the moment I am riding a Kawasaki ER500. She’s called Blue and is a great first bike for me, for the time being anyway!

  1. Wow, Emily fun stuff! That interesting car that looked rather cartoony was from The Wacky Racers. You probably are too young for them.

    Thanks

  2. Hiya Emily great blog thanks!! I visited for 3 days a few years ago (pre COVID) and we had a fantastic time and the sun was out for all 3 days, I kid you not!!!! And the National Motorcycle Museum is truly a national treasure I LOVE the place, they have over 1000 British bikes that all work, and they show about 750 at any one time so there is always something to see!!!
