Day 14 – Florida Keys to Daytona Beach FL

After a very windy night we woke up this morning with our tent bag missing. Being in such a rush the day before, we had left it on the table and it blew away, whoops.

Whilst Mitch went off to hunt for it, I went and got us some coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Thankfully the bag got caught in a bush so didn’t stray too far, drama averted!

Although a bit pricey, this campsite was definitely worth it as it had every amenity you could need. I had a lovely shower, dried my hair and brushed my teeth all in peace as it was off season so very quiet.

We had quite a lot of riding and driving to do today so we were eager to get on the road. As you will of seen me mention before on here, it is absolutely impossible for us to pack away our camping gear without some marital bickering. If anyone is looking to take the next step in their relationship and are looking for a sign if they are doing the right thing, I highly recommend going camping with your partner. I promise that packing up a tent will bring out the worst in both of you, especially if you have not long woke up!

As we left the Keys I was quite sad to see yesterday’s tourist spots passing me by. I loved my short time here and I cannot wait to return in the future, on my own bike of course.

Rider Share was a really easy service to use and Louis made it seamless for us. We just had to take photos of the bike and upload them and we were on our way. It was so kind of him to let us keep our car on his drive for the night, it saved us so much hassle and gave us peace of mind for our trip. It’s great when you come across people like him when travelling.

The rest of the day wasn’t particularly eventful as we really had to make some distance. Other than a stop in Walmart and Dunkin Donuts there wasn’t too much to report.

One of my hobbies which I don’t think I’ve mentioned on here before, is knitting. Quite a contrast from the motorcycling right? Like riding, I find it very therapeutic and I love watching something grow from my needles. For this trip I was working on a pattern called The Wishbone Sweater by Kutokavika. Writing this 3 months later I am still working on this pattern with one arm to go, it’s taking me forever!

When we arrived at our hotel we were very relieved to see that it was the same as online. It was a really beautiful and safe area which was the complete opposite to the last hotel we stayed at.

We kept costs down by buying dinner from Aldi which we had in the room. This time of year is great for going into the supermarkets because of all the Christmas food so we can get all of our favourites and indulge a little.

As always thank you so much for reading. If you enjoyed this post please let me know by leaving a like, comment or buying me a coffee. Also make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss the next post!

  1. Hahaha great comments about marital bliss and biking and camping thanks!!! I remember in our early motorcycle trips to France with a group of mates from college we were really tired so one late and dark evening we decided to pitch our tents on some lovely grass right next to the road. The next morning when we awoke we discovered that we had camped in the middle of a large dual carriageway and all the passing cars hooted and waved at us as we got packed up and dressed!!! Great fun. Another time we camped in a motorway service rest stop and the coppers moved us on!!!
