Day 8 Tatamagouche, NS to Halifax, NS

Perhaps I’m getting old but 9pm has become the perfect bed time. Naturally waking up at 6:30am, without an alarm is a breeze when you’ve had nine hours sleep. It’s even easier when you’ve slept on a big cloud with no one next to you fidgeting.

We got a free breakfast with our stay but it didn’t open until 9 which is much too late for us early birds. Instead, we had coffee in the room and managed to leave the hotel by 7:45am.

It was very short ride today as we were heading straight to Halifax to meet our good friend, Grace and her friend, Patrick. We used to live with her in Australia and we’ve stayed close ever since. The last time I saw her was five years ago so you can imagine we were very excited.

Although we had some rain, we had no other dramas until we got to the toll bridge. With dismay, we saw that it was cash only which is fine but we didn’t have any – doh! We dug around in our pockets and in our bags and it was confirmed, we had no cash. Thankfully the guy in the booth was kind enough to wave us through without paying.

Grace’s parents were away so they very kindly let us stay in their apartment for the night. Having such lovely accommodation and safe parking for the bikes all for free was incredible and we couldn’t of been more thankful or felt more fortunate.

When we arrived, we rushed in to get changed and headed straight out again. We went to a very British pub where we had some very British grub – fish and chips of course.

After, with full bellies and feeling a little giddy from my one beer, we got into Grace’s car and headed to Peggy’s Cove.

Thank you wind for my horrendous side part

Peggy’s Cove is a charming coastal village which is best known for its picturesque views and light house. If you’re in Halifax I highly recommend visiting here!

To finish off our day we headed back into the city and got the ferry to Dartmouth. Grace knew the perfect place for lobster rolls and by chance we found a great brewery that was hosting a game of bingo. They didn’t serve food there but allowed food to be brought in so it all worked out perfectly.

I was having a lot of good luck today but lucky streaks only last for so long. So on the ferry back, I stood in dog poop.

We had one more drink after a walk across on the boardwalk and then called it a night. With a ride to Cape Bretton tomorrow we really needed to be leaving early. It was lovely having a day mostly off the bikes but truth be told I was missing Suzie and felt bad for her waiting for me in the garage. Tomorrow I’d make up for it with a really long day of riding.

This trip was going far too fast!

  1. Love following your travels! I was in Nova Scotia many moons ago and have friends in Cape Breton. Make sure you see the Giant Fiddle while you are there. It’s quite the site to see! Happy travels.

Great times other than the dog poop. Hope your trip doesn’t end too quick. Travels ahead. You know we have an outdoor club at school, The Road Less Traveled Adventures. Our motto is : Adventure is just one step away! I wish that for you.
