Day 7 – 10 Orlando FL

For the next three days we were staying at an Air BnB in Orlando. Although we hadn’t been on the road long, its always nice to stop for a few days and be able to unpack properly. I was also desperate to get some laundry done.

We had a very relaxing time in Orlando, mostly because it rained quite a bit so we had to find indoor activities to keep us busy. My favourite one of these was going to the Oak Ridge Gun Range.

I’m not into hunting but I love target practice and shooting a gun in the USA is something worthy of being on the bucket list. Gun laws are very strict in the UK so being able to go to a gun range as tourist was very exciting for us. It was very easy for us to rent the guns. We just had to tick a few boxes, hand over our ID and we were good to go. Of course this is great for us because we are responsible and sound of mind (mostly) but for those who aren’t and how easy it was to get these guns, it doesn’t really bare thinking about.

I got to shoot a Glock 9mm and AR15 9mm. I’m definitely more of a rifle girl, the glock gave such a push back, with these flimsy wrists it makes it hard to shoot. It really made me appreciate people who can shoot a target with one of these, what a skill. Laura Croft I’m looking at you!

Guess who got a new shirt in New Orleans

After all that excitement, my hands were shaking a bit so theres only one remedy for that. Sugar and coffee!

Furby at the indoor market

Another favourite activity was getting a massage at Orlando’s huge shopping mall. When we entered the mall they were offering “taster massages” which was $8 for ten minutes. As soon as he started working on my back I became very aware of all the knots and tension and was sold immediately. Working on a farm and doing such a manual job will do that to your back. He offered for a longer massage which I was tempted by but it was a bit uncomfortable watching the feet of passers-by and hearing their conversations. Also someone dropped a candle right in front of me which smashed and it kind of ruined the vibe for me. We blissfully wandered to the massage place and booked ourselves in for half an hour. The guy who did mine was fantastic but he was sick and coughed directly on my head twice. It’s so annoying being as cripplingly polite as I am because you end up justifying things to yourself like, “Well he’s working so hard on my back and it feels great, so what if he coughed on my head, its not worth making a fuss”.

Luckily I had already had that sickness when our trip started so my immune system was prepared. (Look at me justifying it again!)

Disney pylon

Other than wandering around the mall and sorting out a few things we didn’t get up to much else in Orlando. We were thinking about going to Disney but with the weather being what it was, I’m glad we didn’t. That will be a trip in the future when the suns shining.
